Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg 2: The Unwanted Money Maker

Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg have been playing PR tag recently . It's not what fans expected, and some may claim it's a bit too late for anyone to care, but all of that is just noise right now.

The fact is if this does indeed materialize, then fans will not only buy in, they'll love every second of it.

The "smart" ones and the know-it-alls out there will say they hate it, and it's practically guaranteed they will rebel against the storyline every step of the way, but it doesn't matter. All of their rejection will only add to the intrigue around it, and that intrigue will lead to the biggest angle WWE has booked in quite a long time.

The reason for that is due to the fact that this angle is really writing itself.

These things must happen organically, and that's what fans are seeing between Lesnar and Goldberg. From the moment they each left WWE back in 2004 to the moment Brock returned in 2012, the desire has been there to see a rematch between the two.

All of that has come from the very fans that swear they want nothing to do with it.

The reason for the need to see Goldberg versus Lesnar 2 is twofold. On one hand, there is some unfinished business for the former WCW champion. It's no secret that Goldberg was not happy with the way things ended in WWE the first time around, and coming back would give him some closure. It would also allow his son to see his legendary father in action, which is surely important for him.

But the other side of this involves Brock's booking, which has been nothing short of insane.

Lesnar is presented as a monster, and rightfully so. In a real world environment, there's likely no one that could beat Brock in a one on one contest. If WWE was a shoot, the company would be in serious trouble because Brock would have no competition.

But isn't that the way it is now?

Lesnar is booked like The Hulk smashing The Chitauri. The problem is, fans want The Hulk fighting other warriors on Planet Hulk. It's not that people want to necessarily see Brock be wrecked in the ring, but at some point, he must begin to look human.

Of course WWE has never really agreed with that.

However there's just no drama in seeing Brock destroy one opponent after another. So as fans begin to fantasy book Brock in compelling matches that have real grit to them, Goldberg's name continues to come up, and it really always has.

Fans want to see Brock physically challenged in the ring, and there are very few men that even remotely fit the bill. Goldberg is one of them.

But who wants to see more of the same WrestleMania mess that happened 12 years ago? No one, really. Will that stop fans from talking about it, or believing a renewed feud is one the way? No chance at all.

Goldberg says he's headed to New York, the site of SummerSlam. Lesnar says if Goldberg has the balls, then he's ready for him. This is some next level chest beating going on, and no one could ever say that Lesnar and Goldberg are not experts at self-promoting. So all of this could be just noise, and nothing more.

But if it's not, then it would quickly become the story of the year in WWE, and no matter how many claim it's unwanted, it would make a ton of money for everyone involved. This angle is indeed writing itself and perhaps it's not over just yet.
