WWE's Seth Rollins: Great Worker in a Tough Era

Night of Champions is in the books and Seth Rollins is still the WWE world heavyweight champion. He outlasted Sting in the main event to keep the belt and though it appears Kane is now coming after him, it's too early yet to predict if he will lose the title in this new feud.

The fact is he shouldn't. Seth is absolutely killing it right now, both in the ring and on the mic. He is the best hand in the company and he shows no signs of slowing down. But despite how many great matches he works or how many times he out-performs virtually every other guy in the locker room, Rollins continues to be criticized for his title run.

But the time has come to let it go. Seriously, enough is enough.

The number of pieces published proclaiming Rollins' miserable title reign is increasing with each passing day. One by one, overconfident fans and overly critical writers take shots at Seth and WWE. Everyone has it all figured out and the notion he's a failed champion has been repeated so often it's practically becoming accepted as truth.

The problem with that is no one's giving Rollins credit for doing anything right.

They may admit he's a good worker and they probably even believe he's one of the best in WWE. But after that? He's getting D's all across the board. The same people that are giving those grades are quick to remind everyone it's not his fault, it's the booking.

After all, these guys are just doing what they're told right?

But whether or not Seth is responsible for the words coming out of his mouth or the opponents he faces is irrelevant. The fact is the former Shield architect operates in the era of John Cena and that era seemingly has no end in sight.

John will always look good despite who holds the championship and if the situation calls for him to pin the champ or make him submit, then that's what will happen. The guy with the title can fall, he can struggle, he can lose face each and every week on TV and there's nothing he can do about it.

But Cena will never stay down for long and fans know it.

The image of the industry's biggest championship is wholly dependent upon what the current plan is for Cena. If a babyface has the belt and he has the stamp of approval from John's character, then all is well. But if a heel has it, then he could lose it any moment to John , which means he will be chased and he will be bested in one confrontation after another.

In other words, if John is not in the hunt then the champ is here. If he is in the hunt, then the champ is him.

Brock Lesnar was the exception to the rule and that's because he's Brock Lesnar. Seth Rollins is just Seth Rollins right now, which means he's a guy that's still building his career one brick at a time. He came along at a tough time for a someone who's not a veteran to be considered a smash success as champ and that's just the way it is.

He's in no position to call his own shots becasue he can't. The day will come when he can; he's too good and too dedicated to give up and not reach that point as a top guy.

Unfortunately that day will probably not come any time soon. WWE is Cena's game and Seth is just a player in it. So if this title reign is not making everyone happy despite the hard work he's putting into it, then so be it. The next one could be the one that makes him a legend and if not, he will get there eventually.
