Bray Wyatt Gets Hungry on WWE Raw

Bray Wyatt finally showed his hand during the April 27 edition of Monday Night Raw when he attacked Ryback in the middle of the ring. The Eater of Worlds had been cutting promos over the past few weeks, targeting an unknown WWE Superstar and now he's gone public with his latest quest.

And now that the cat is out of the bag, get ready for the complaints to start rolling in.

The biggest reason for that is because Ryback's considered by many fans to not exactly be what Bray needs to keep moving forward. After all Wyatt has had a string of main event opponents since he debuted on the main roster.

Kane, Daniel Bryan, John Cena and The Undertaker have all entered Wyatt's world and with each match, Bray's legacy has grown. He is known as the enigmatic madman, the seeker of truth with a twisted mind that only finds comfort in pain and aggression. Bray is an attraction all by himself, a standalone character that's independent of any faction and any alliances.

He's also one of the most entertaining guys in the WWE locker room and many feel it's just a matter of time until he reaches the top tier of the company.

And Ryback is really nowhere near that level right now. With each feud, Bray has gotten consistently better and has taken one more step toward main event status. So how does facing Big Hungry help his cause?

The answer is, it doesn't. This budding rivalry is not about Bray, it's about Ryback.

Ryback was built to be a star; he has the look, he has the intensity and he has the drive to do big things and he really always has. But thanks to the WWE promotional machine working overtime, Ryback was shoved down our throats to the point that we tapped out and begged for mercy.

So WWE pulled him back and started over. And after all that time, he's finally gotten some much needed traction. The crowd doesn't view him as a hard sell main event star anymore; he's just Ryback now and truth be told, he's rather fun to watch.

However, there may still be the need to push him higher. If that is indeed the case then Ryback will eventually need a little more help than what he's gotten lately. Enter Bray Wyatt, who could be the one to kick Ryback's career up a notch.

For that role to be filled by anyone other than a veteran seems a bit odd, to say the least. But much like Wyatt, Ryback has already been that route. He faced CM Punk, he faced Chris Jericho and he faced John Cena. And while he undoubtedly learned from each guy, his career continued to go south as Bray's improved.

So instead of putting him back in that position again, WWE is apparently choosing to pair him with a guy that's already been there and done that. And it's a smart move.

There are only so many veterans left to help out; If the current crop of WWE talent hopes to get anywhere, they will likely start having to rely on each other. That means the booking has to be there and creative must be ready to begin building them for the future.

Why not put Ryback in a feud with Bray Wyatt? It's an intrguing prospect because there is no clear cut winner and because they've never touched before. Bray has the opportunity to elevate Ryback merely by talking about him, putting him on the same pedestal that Cena and Taker each inhabited.

And for once, the pressure is off both guys in terms of working a "main event or die" type of angle. The crowd can just sit back and enjoy where this one goes and both guys can just have fun with it. It's a chance for them to show off and take it to the next level by stealing the show and the company will have time to see what they can do against each other.

It's not a homerun of course and anything can happen to prevent this from getting over. But if it does work then Ryback may achieve a bit more depth of character and get better, while Bray gets to do what he does best; entertain. And I for one have no complaints there.
