Seth Rollins as WWE's Plan B

Chants of "you sold out" began in earnest during the opening match of WWE Fastlane on Sunday, February 22. The crowd's words were aimed of course at Seth Rollins, who tagged with The Big Show and Kane against Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan and Ryback.

And from the moment that the bell rang, Rollins more than looked the part. In fact, he looked better than the part; he looked like a big fish in a small pond.

This is no disrespect to anyone else in the match, however. Kane, Ziggler and Show are former WWE and World champions, after all. Rowan is still working on getting his feet under him and Ryback is on the second leg of his Feed Me More tour. Two guys represent the established guard and three represent the next generation and all five should get the time they deserve on the card.

But everything about Rollins just screamed "main event" at Fastlane. Maybe it's the way he carried himself. Or maybe it's the fact that WWE has used the infamous 'future of the company' tagline so much that it's become a reality when we look at him now.

Or maybe it's that he's ready. Maybe he has matured to the point that now he's ready to move ahead and he's just biding his time until his number is called. Let's face it; Seth Rollins is WWE's plan B.

It's not time for him to elevate to the top yet. It's coming, but it's not here yet. Truth be told, it could get here at WrestleMania if Seth slides in on the champ after the main event is over. That Money in the Bank briefcase has become a staple of his gimmick but eventually it will be handed to a referee for the last time.

And when it is, Rollins' potential will be realized.

Until that time gets here though, Seth is a little out of place. John Cena is still the top dog, Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan are the talk of fans and Brock Lesnar is the man with the gold. But Rollins is simmering just below the surface.

He's doing his work in six-man tag matches with The Authority, he's impressing against Dolph on TV and he's just filling up the card wherever he's needed. He's doing a fine job of it and every time he's in the ring, he kills it. He's in the backseat and when the driver needs a break, he will be ready to take the wheel.

As Seth's star rises in WWE, it's also beginning to shine in the mainstream. The "heat" with John Stewart is likely heading somewhere and that's good for Seth. WWE could have put anyone in that spot but they obviously chose Rollins due to his breakout role in the company as well as his near-top guy status.

Seth is becoming more entertaining as the weeks go by. Getting his name and face outside the four walls of WWE will only help him and cause him to be even more must-see than he is right now. He's a great heel and one day should be a top draw and when the moment comes the company is ready for him, he will be ready as well.

Seth Rollins is the plan B and he is the strongest one WWE has.
